RETABLOS

A journey through singer-songwriter music, traditional songs and instrumental music. The two artists have known each other and been friends for over twenty years; they have often collaborated, taking part in each other’s recordings and writing songs together.
Now they finally present their duo concert, Retablos, in which they blend their artistic paths, different yet deeply connected: the folk and instrumental music of Riccardo Tesi, one of the most innovative diatonic accordion players internationally recognized, and the singer-songwriter and folk repertoire of Giua, a singer-songwriter and guitarist highly appreciated on the Italian cultural and theatre scene.

In 2014, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, an outstanding cast including some of the most important figures of Italian world music created a new production under the musical direction of Riccardo Tesi. The success achieved throughout Europe has demonstrated that the songs of Bella Ciao not only retain all of their expressive power today, but have also acquired a renewed urgency in our globalized world for their values of freedom, peace and civic engagement.

A multi-faceted orchestra composed of some of the most representative musicians from the ethnic, classical and jazz scenes revisits—with both rigor and boldness—the melodies and rhythms that have made entire generations of Italians dance. An opportunity to rediscover the evocative melodic structure, instrumental virtuosity, fascinating timbral combinations and the most hidden and seductive aspects of a musical genre that has long been undeservedly underestimated.
TESI – GERI DUO
SOPRA I TETTI DI FIRENZE
Tradizione Contemporanea
– Riccardo Tesi diatonic accordion, musical direction,
Maurizio Geri vocals, guitar –
Riccardo Tesi and Maurizio Geri, bound by a remarkable musical and human understanding, when performing as a duo make the flowers of a modern folk music bloom from the seeds of tradition that they once gathered together with Caterina Bueno. Tesi, with his melancholic and dreamlike accordion, and Geri with his lucid and versatile guitar playing—also supported by a vibrant and expressive voice—range from traditional music to instrumental compositions and singer-songwriter repertoire. Drawing from the finest gems of a vast repertoire they have brought around the world during more than thirty years of artistic activity, they offer a music that looks forward while remaining fully aware of what made it possible: a music that is Contemporary Tradition.
Tesi – Vaillant – Piccioni trio
CAPANNE CON VISTA
– Riccardo Tesi diatonic accordion, Patrick Vaillant mandolin, Andrea Piccioni frame drums –
The Tesi/Vaillant duo, which in the 1990s surprised international audiences with its bold and original music, resumes its journey today with the collaboration of Andrea Piccioni, a great master of frame drums. Mandolin, diatonic accordion and tambourine—three traditional instruments in the hands of three true virtuosos who greatly expand their expressive possibilities and musical vocabulary. All three share the same spirit: that of an instrumental music without borders, innovative and daring yet deeply rooted in tradition. A musical universe that is captivating because it is both familiar and surprising at the same time. And so their “cabins with a view,” overlooking the Mediterranean, become the ideal place to assemble and cultivate their sonic utopias.
TESI – LAROCCA DUO
UN MISTERO DI SOGNI AVVERATI
Omaggio a Dino Campana
– Massimiliano Larocca vocals, guitar,
Riccardo Tesi diatonic accordion –
The lyrics of the Tuscan “cursed poet” Dino Campana become both an album and a concert of songs. The songs and voice of Massimiliano Larocca, together with the arrangements and diatonic accordion of Riccardo Tesi, offer a (re)reading of the cult book by the poet from Marradi that has never been attempted or heard before. 13 Campanian poems are transformed into thirteen songs, faithfully preserving the original lyrics and poetic meters. An original and surprising poetic concert, created to discover—or to continue loving—one of the greatest modern poets: Dino Campana.
