RICCARDO TESI: INSOLO

– Organettista and composer, he is considered one of the boldest and most authoritative musicians of the European world music scene –

Back to Projects

An internationally acclaimed soloist, Riccardo Tesi retraces the milestones of his musical universe together with his closest companion, the diatonic accordion. From his love for the traditional music of Central and Southern Italy to his passion for jazz, the journey also includes his own compositions, in which he confirms a personal and innovative approach aimed at expanding the expressive possibilities of the instrument.

An instrumentalist with an unmistakable style, he is one of the pioneers of the revival of the diatonic button accordion in Italy, a traditional instrument whose language he has revolutionized, expanding its vocabulary beyond the boundaries of tradition.

A constant crosser of geographical and stylistic borders, throughout his thirty-year career he has collaborated with prestigious names from Italian and international world music (C. Bueno, E. Ledda, L. Galeazzi, D. Sepe, P. Vaillant, J. Kirkpatrick, J. Vali, M. Perrone, K. Junkera, La Bottine Souriante), from jazz (S. Bollani, G. Mirabassi, G. Trovesi, M. P. De Vito), from rock (Piero Pelù, PGR, Ginevra Di Marco, Skiantos), and even from the great Italian singer-songwriter tradition (F. De André, I. Fossati, G. M. Testa, G. Gaber, Tosca, C. Donà, O. Vanoni, etc.).

Leader of Banditaliana, one of the most internationally acclaimed Italian world music groups, and a member of I Samurai, a quintet of all-star European accordionists, he has performed at the most important European folk & jazz festivals, with frequent tours in Australia, Canada and Japan.

In 2014 he curated the new edition of Bella Ciao to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the most important show in the history of Italian folk music.

He has recorded 29 albums under his own name, including numerous original productions dedicated to liscio and to traditional Tuscan and Emilian music. He has composed music for cinema and theatre and has long been involved in teaching as a professor at the “Tchaikovsky” Conservatory of Catanzaro.
